Setup Switch (NPK)

From NAGTROC

The new Nissan GT-R is full of advanced electronic computerized controls that helps make driving faster, easier and safer. In addition, the car's behavior can be manually tuned by the driver - like in a racing video game.

A row of switches in the center of the dashboard allows a driver to adjust the transmission shifts; the suspension firmness; and the VDC-R (Vehicle Dynamic Control).

There are three modes available in the transmission switch. The R mode - the sportiest setting - speeds up the Nissan GT-R's already fast shift changes. A computerized control predicts the driver's next gear change, based on throttle opening, vehicle speed, braking and other information. The normal mode offers fast, precise gear shifts. The changes are sequential (as with the R mode) and automatic throttle 'blipping' ensures that all downshifts are amazingly smooth. A separate set-up switch allows the driver to access three different driving modes for the suspension: R (for high performance), Normal (the sports setting) or Comfort (for city driving to absorb road bumps, or for snow or rough roads). The set-up switch electronically changes the settings on the Bilstein DampTronic dampers, specially developed for the Nissan GT-R.

Finally, the VDC-R (Vehicle Dynamic Control) can be switched to an R mode. This turns off the vehicle's comprehensive stability and traction controls. In every case Normal settings are automatically activated when the vehicle's engine is started.
